President of the United States, Donald Trump, aims to remove the leadership of Cuba and is actively seeking insiders within the Havana government who are willing to make a deal with Washington to “overthrow the communist regime,” according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.
The U.S. administration reportedly does not have a “concrete plan” for Cuba, but the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. military “served as a precedent and warning” for Cuba.
A U.S. official told the newspaper that meetings have been held with Cuban exiles and civil groups in Miami and Washington in an effort to identify a government official in Cuba who might be willing to negotiate a deal.
Trump has also directly threatened Cuba, posting on his platform Truth Social earlier this month:
“I strongly suggest that they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
