The United States of America has donated an advanced scanner to Kosovo Customs, which will be installed at the Merdare border crossing.

This equipment will facilitate trade in goods and enable the inspection of trucks, trailers, and vehicles suspected of smuggling or other illegal activities.

The handover ceremony was attended by Kosovo Customs Director Agron Llugaliu, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy Anu Prattipati, and Acting Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati.

The installation of the scanner is expected to accelerate customs procedures and enhance security at Kosovo’s border points, by increasing the capacity to inspect goods and vehicles crossing the border.

“This type of equipment is extremely necessary and also addresses a recently emerging issue related to security at border points, particularly concerning the entry and exit of goods. I believe this will accelerate and facilitate the circulation of goods, while at the same time ensuring the integrity of the verification process and overall security. It is good that we are here. Thank you to all parties,” Murati stated.
