Belarusian opposition leader-in-exile Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has praised Kosovo as an example of freedom, resilience, and prosperity, highlighting the country’s journey during a meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

In a post on social media, Tsikhanouskaya described Kosovo’s state-building experience as “extraordinary,” emphasizing its significance as a source of inspiration for nations striving for democracy and independence.

“Kosovo’s extraordinary journey shows how courage, resilience, and international solidarity can lead to freedom and prosperity. We deeply appreciate Kosovo’s continued support for the people of Belarus,” Tsikhanouskaya wrote.

Tsikhanouskaya is the leading figure of the Belarusian democratic opposition and the symbolic leader of resistance against the regime of President Aleksandr Lukashenko. She rose to international prominence during the 2020 presidential elections, after her husband, Siarhei Tsikhanouski, was arrested and barred from running for office.

International observers widely assessed the elections as manipulated in favor of Lukashenko, triggering mass nationwide protests. Following the crackdown, Tsikhanouskaya was forced into exile, from where she continues to advocate for democracy and human rights on the global stage.

Despite the praise, Belarus does not officially recognize the Republic of Kosovo.
