The decision by Kosovo’s Central Election Commission (CEC) not to approve the candidate list of the Serb List is “against the citizens’ right to democratically elect their representatives.”

“Any attempt to violate this basic principle undermines the partnership between the United States and Kosovo,” a spokesperson for the US Embassy in Pristina told Radio Free Europe.

On January 31, the CEC announced the final results of the early parliamentary elections held on December 28. During the session, the Commission approved the candidate lists of all parties except the Serb List – the main party representing Kosovo Serbs and backed by Belgrade.

Three CEC members voted in favor, two against from the Vetëvendosje movement, and the remaining members abstained.

The Serb List filed a complaint on February 2 with the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel regarding this CEC decision.
