Ten people were killed and 30 injured after a vehicle crashed into a large crowd in New Orleans, USA, at Canal and Bourbon Street, according to the city’s official disaster preparedness agency, NOLA Ready.
Eyewitnesses said that the New Year’s celebration turned into horror as they described the incident.
“All I saw was a vehicle crashing into everyone on the left side of the Bourbon sidewalk,” said Kevin Garcia, 22, speaking to CNN immediately after the incident.
“A body flew toward me,” he said, adding that he had also heard gunshots.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Whit Davis from Shreveport, Louisiana, told CNN that the incident occurred while she was in a nightclub on Bourbon Street, as reported by RKS NEWS.
“Everyone started screaming and running, and then we were isolated for a bit, and then it calmed down, but they wouldn’t let us leave,” Davis said.
“When they finally let us out of the club, the police motioned for us where to walk and were telling us to get out of the area quickly. I saw several lifeless bodies that they couldn’t even cover and thousands of people receiving first aid.”
The police told people at the scene to put their phones in their pockets and leave as quickly as possible, Davis said.
