The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, has insisted that the Prime Minister and ministers cannot take the oath as MPs today without first resigning from their official government positions.
Before the start of the constitutive session, Abdixhiku referred to the precedent set four years ago by Avdullah Hoti’s government, saying that he and the ministers who had been elected as MPs had resigned prior to taking their parliamentary oaths.
“Four years ago, Prime Minister Hoti and Minister Zemaj did not attend the constitutive session to take the oath—there are recordings to prove this. They only came to the following session after stepping down from their duties. It’s a democratic rule.
We’re not saying the government should be left without a leader, but we are saying these individuals cannot perform both functions simultaneously. They can even stay in government and skip the parliamentary session—it’s a constitutional procedural issue. LDK’s position remains unchanged,” Abdixhiku stated.
