The German Ambassador to Albania, Karl Bergner, has shared his observations on the ongoing election process in the country, emphasizing its significance for Albania’s European path.

Speaking from the field where he has been personally observing the vote, Ambassador Bergner said the process is unfolding in a calm and orderly manner.

“I was at a school in Durrës where electronic voting is being used. It’s a system that might take some time to get used to, but it delivers more accurate and fair results,” he told Euronews.

Bergner highlighted that these elections are a crucial test for Albania’s democratic standards and EU integration aspirations.

“Transparent elections will be a solid proof of the country’s commitment to integration. Many foreign observers, including Germans, are here to ensure a high level of transparency,” he added, noting that no final assessment will be made before the process concludes.

The ambassador also called on Albanian citizens to participate actively in the vote.

“I urge all citizens to use this day to cast their vote. Turnout has so far been high, and I believe every Albanian stands to benefit from these elections,” said Bergner.

He stressed the civic duty of voting, even for those disillusioned by current options:

“Even if you’re dissatisfied with the current alternatives, you must vote. It’s a way to not waste the opportunity for your country, for the future of your families and children.”
