Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced a bold new initiative: the Albanian government will co-finance Thinking Machines Lab, the cutting-edge AI start-up led by Mira Murati, a prominent figure in the global tech scene.
“It’s time for the state to step into the world of companies—not just as a regulator, but as an investor and beneficiary,” said Rama during a recent statement, emphasizing the potential national benefits of such an investment.
Murati, known for her pioneering work in artificial intelligence, reportedly welcomed the idea. “I asked her if it was possible for us to get involved, and she said: ‘Absolutely,’” Rama revealed.
The partnership aims not only to position Albania as a player in the AI industry, but also to drive progress in two of the country’s strategic goals: EU integration and the fight against corruption.
“Will you help Albania enter the EU faster?” Rama said he asked Murati. “I told her—I’m serious about this.”
The collaboration marks a significant moment in Albania’s ambitions to modernize its tech sector and play a more active role in the European digital economy.
