Albania’s government will review the draft budget for 2027 today, which is projected to total €10 billion. The document will then be presented by Finance Minister Petrit Mala at the Conference of Parliamentary Group Leaders, before proceeding to discussions in parliamentary committees.
One of the key features of the new budget is the proposed inclusion of compensation for businesses that have suffered damage during protests in the capital over the past 15 days, RTSH reports, as cited by KosovaPress. According to the report, a compensation mechanism for affected businesses is expected to be included in the 2027 budget as part of the measures proposed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Following the presentation of the draft budget at the Conference of Parliamentary Group Leaders, the parliamentary schedule will be set. A detailed review of individual budget allocations will then begin in parliamentary committees.
As for the opposition, RTSH reports that the Democratic Party is expected to continue its partial boycott of parliamentary proceedings. The Democrats have announced that they will not participate in what they describe as a return to parliamentary normality, demanding Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation, the formation of a transitional government and early elections.
It remains to be seen whether the Democratic Party will participate in discussions on the new budget at the Conference of Parliamentary Group Leaders and how it will respond to the fiscal package accompanying the draft budget.
