Serbia’s Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime has opened a case concerning criminal complaints against several Serbian ambassadors, Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, and two other officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over suspicions of abuse of official position and criminal offences against electoral rights.

The prosecutor in charge has asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs, specifically the Service for Combating Organised Crime (SBPOK), to collect the necessary information. Requests for information have also been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Republic Electoral Commission.

According to the prosecutor’s office, proceedings were initially opened following two criminal complaints against Serbia’s ambassador to Slovakia, Aleksandar Nakić, and its ambassador to the United States, Dragan Šutanovac.

They are suspected of abuse of official position and violations of the right to vote, Nova.rs reports.

On October 20, 2026, the prosecutor’s office sent requests for information to Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Republic Electoral Commission to advance the preliminary investigative proceedings.

A further 13 criminal complaints were subsequently submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime, including complaints against the ambassadors previously mentioned.

The additional complaints concern Serbia’s ambassador to France, Ana Hrustanović; ambassador to Romania, Dragan Simeunović; ambassador to Switzerland, Ivan Trifunović; ambassador to Bulgaria, Milan Ravić; ambassador to Montenegro, Nebojša Rodić; ambassador to Australia, Rade Stefanović; ambassador to Canada, Stefan Tomašević; and ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Vladimir Marić.

They are suspected of abuse of official position, violations of the right to vote, and obstructing the voting process.

Criminal complaints have also been filed against Serbia’s Foreign Minister, Marko Đurić; Vesko Radović, head of the Security Department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ General Secretariat; and Dušan Kozarev, acting secretary-general of the ministry.

Đurić and Radović are suspected of abuse of official position and violations of the right to vote, while Kozarev is suspected of abuse of official position.

Following receipt of the criminal complaints, the prosecutor responsible for organised crime urgently requested that the Service for Combating Organised Crime, operating under Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, gather information and carry out the necessary checks.
