Former European Parliament member and one of Europe’s well-known voices on Balkan affairs, Doris Pack, has reacted on the platform X to a post by activist and analyst Kaltrina Kamberi, expressing full agreement with her statements regarding interfaith tolerance in Kosovo. Pack commented that the reality described in Kamberi’s post and the accompanying video about coexistence between religious communities in Kosovo reflects what she herself has witnessed during her visits to the country.
Pack emphasized that tolerance and mutual respect between religious communities in Kosovo are not merely statements, but a reality demonstrated over many years. According to her, her personal experiences during visits to Kosovo convinced her that interfaith coexistence has deep historical roots and remains an important part of the country’s social fabric.
The recognition from a figure with decades of experience in European politics serves as a counterbalance to narratives that often attempt to portray Kosovo as a place lacking religious tolerance. In contrast, numerous examples from history and everyday life demonstrate a long tradition of coexistence between Albanians of different faiths and other religious communities living in Kosovo.
This reality also stands in sharp contrast to what happened in neighboring Serbia during the 1990s under the regime of Slobodan Milošević, when religious symbols and identities were exploited for nationalist purposes, contributing to the humiliation, persecution, and killing of people based on their ethnic and religious background during the wars in former Yugoslavia. Doris Pack’s message highlights the importance of recognizing the difference between a society built on coexistence and a political system that uses religion as a tool for division and conflict.
