Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced on Tuesday that three people who went missing during the 1998–1999 war in Kosovo have been identified following the receipt of new DNA analysis reports.
In a statement published on social media, Kurti said DNA testing had confirmed the identities of Adem (Fazli) Ademi, Fatmir (Bajram) Fazliu and Ali (Islam) Haliti, all members of the Group of Intellectuals.
According to Kurti, the Government Commission on Missing Persons, in cooperation with the relevant institutions, has informed the families of the three men, who were intellectuals and activists for the national cause.
Kurti said they had been abducted by Serbian armed forces in April 1999 and subsequently forcibly disappeared.
He expressed his condolences to their families, emphasizing that determining the fate of people who disappeared during the war remains a priority for the Government of Kosovo.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to pursuing justice for crimes committed during the war, accusing Serbia of denying and concealing those crimes and withholding documents and archives related to the period.
The identification marks another development in efforts to establish the fate of people who remain missing from the Kosovo war.
