Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Turkey strongly opposes any expansion of the conflict between the United States and Iran into other countries across the region, warning that further escalation could seriously destabilize the Middle East.

The remarks were made during a meeting in Istanbul with the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Masrur Barzani, where recent political and security developments in the region were discussed.

Erdogan expressed concern over recent attacks on Iraqi territory, including incidents in Erbil, emphasizing that continued escalation risks undermining regional stability.

He underlined that Turkey will continue to maintain cooperation and solidarity with the Kurdistan Regional Government during this sensitive period.

The Turkish president also stressed the importance of political stability in Iraq, noting that the swift formation of central government institutions would contribute to national unity and cohesion.

Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to strengthening relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the fields of trade, energy, and transportation, framing cooperation as essential for long-term regional stability.
