European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has expressed hope that the newly elected US Congress and Senate will continue supporting Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia to bring the war to an end.
Commenting on the results of the US midterm elections, Kallas said American voters had made their choice clear.
She stressed the importance of transatlantic cooperation, emphasizing that Europe and the United States are much stronger when they act together.
“It is important that these messages are clearly conveyed to Russia and that, through this pressure, Russia is stopped from continuing this war,” Kallas said during a press conference in Brussels.
The EU’s top diplomat added that it remains to be seen how the election results will translate into changes in US policy.
Her remarks came after the November 3 midterm elections, in which Democrats reportedly won control of both chambers of the US Congress, dealing a major political setback to President Donald Trump.
