Kosovo’s Minister of Environment, Fitore Pacolli, announced on Wednesday that she had officially received the Study on the Natural Values of Mount Mokna and Lake Ujman, a document that provides the basis for initiating procedures to designate both areas as protected territories.

In a Facebook announcement, Pacolli said the study confirms the rich biodiversity and tourism potential of the two areas, providing a scientific foundation for their protection and sustainable development.

She stressed that, following receipt of the document, the Ministry will begin the next procedural steps before forwarding the initiative to the Assembly for a final vote.

According to Pacolli, declaring Mount Mokna and Lake Ujman protected areas would increase the share of Kosovo’s protected territory from 11% to 12.4%.

“The designation of Mount Mokna and Lake Ujman as protected areas is a major achievement that increases the share of our protected territories from 11% to 12.4%. This positions Kosovo at the highest level in the entire region,” Pacolli stated.

She added that Kosovo’s institutions would continue their efforts to protect the country’s natural heritage and resources.
