European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has praised Albania’s progress in its European Union accession negotiations, highlighting that the country has opened all negotiating chapters and provisionally closed four of them.

Speaking at a press conference presenting the EU Enlargement Strategy, Kos said that Albania, alongside Moldova and Ukraine, is making significant progress in the European integration process.

She stressed that Albania must continue implementing reforms, particularly in areas related to the rule of law, judicial independence, media freedom and the protection of fundamental rights.

“For Albania, Moldova and Ukraine, all progress towards EU membership is important. These are countries that are advancing very quickly. Going forward, we would like to see more dialogue with different countries and explore further opportunities for integration.

“Albania has opened all negotiating chapters and has closed four of them, which is a very important achievement. It must continue delivering on the remaining reforms. The rule of law, judicial independence, media independence and the protection of fundamental rights are important for Albania, not only to become part of the EU, but also for the everyday lives of its citizens,” Kos stated.
