The European Union confirmed today that it has suspended planned new tariffs on the United States for a 90-day period, aiming to pave the way for negotiations with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, reports Rks News.
In a statement to journalists in Brussels, EU spokesperson Olof Gill said: “We want to negotiate, we want to talk” about the tariffs imposed by the U.S. president, which are currently suspended.
“We will not provide any further details at this point beyond what we have already said. We want to negotiate, we want to talk.”
“We appreciate that you have paused the so-called reciprocal tariffs, and in turn, we are now halting our proposed countermeasures, so we have maximum space to consult with our member states, consult with our industry, and negotiate with the U.S.”
“We are ready to make a deal,” emphasized Gill, according to The Guardian.
This development comes one day after President Trump’s decision to suspend tariffs for 90 days on countries that did not retaliate against the first wave of U.S. trade measures, reducing them to 10%.
