Two Belgrade police officers, including a close associate of former Belgrade Police Chief Veselin Milić, have been detained for abuse of office. Internal affairs investigators suspect the officers illegally bypassed security blocks to issue firearms and collector’s licenses to high-risk individuals.
In a significant anti-corruption sweep within Serbia’s law enforcement apparatus, officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Internal Control Sector (SUK) have arrested two active-duty police officers in Belgrade. The operation was executed under the direct order of the Public Prosecutor from the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.
The detained individuals have been identified as:
- B.M. (41): An officer assigned to the Internal Work Control Department of the Belgrade Police Directorate, reportedly a close collaborator of the controversial former Belgrade Police Chief, Veselin Milić.
- N.K. (36): An officer serving at the Vračar Police Station within the Belgrade Police Directorate.
Both face serious criminal charges for Abuse of Official Position.
Bypassing Security Protocols for Illicit Armament
According to official investigative findings, the two suspect officers leveraged their institutional authority to facilitate the re-acquisition of multiple firearms for a civilian identified as M.R.
Furthermore, the officers allegedly pushed through approvals for a prestigious firearm collector’s license for the same individual.
Investigators revealed that M.R. had previously been systematically denied these exact weapons permits and collector’s licenses by other regional police directorates. Those previous rejections were issued due to severe, officially flagged “security impediments”—a term typically denoting individuals tied to organized crime, active investigations, or public safety risks.
By manipulating internal systems, B.M. and N.K. effectively erased or bypassed these red flags to arm an individual deemed dangerous by state security standards.
Judicial Next Steps
Following the arrests, the competent public prosecutor ordered a standard 48-hour police detention for both suspects.
Upon the expiration of this holding period, the officers will be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade for formal arraignment and questioning, alongside the submission of the completed criminal complaint. The investigation is expected to widen to determine if this was an isolated incident or part of a broader, systemic network selling firearms permits to persons of interest within the criminal underworld.
