The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed its readiness to participate in the upcoming Iran–United States nuclear negotiations, highlighting its vital role in verifying any future agreements.

During a visit to Tehran on Thursday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi met with key Iranian officials, including Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

At a press conference following the meetings, Grossi stated:

“For any deal to be valid, our role in verification is essential.”

He noted that while the path forward is complex, diplomacy must prevail despite efforts from various actors to derail the process. Grossi emphasized the agency’s commitment to closing gaps and supporting a credible, peaceful resolution.

“Some would rather see these talks fail,” Grossi warned, “but we must keep pushing forward for peace and technical clarity.”

His visit comes just two days before the next round of Iran-US negotiations, scheduled for Saturday in Rome, following earlier sessions in Oman.

Foreign Minister Araghchi described the talks with Grossi as “constructive”, taking to social media to post:

“As a variety of spoilers gather to derail current negotiations, we need a Director General of Peace.”

Araghchi praised Grossi’s leadership and the IAEA’s role as a neutral technical authority in verifying nuclear-related commitments.

The IAEA’s direct involvement could boost transparency and international confidence, potentially laying a more stable foundation for any deal reached between Tehran and Washington.
