Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Glauk Konjufca has reacted to remarks by a Serbian government minister, who publicly called for the ethnic cleansing of Albanians from Kosovo, describing such rhetoric as unacceptable and incompatible with European values.

“A minister of the Government of Serbia has publicly called for the ethnic cleansing of Albanians from Kosovo. Such rhetoric glorifies war crimes, threatens regional stability, and is completely incompatible with European values and the European future,” Konjufca stated.

Kosovo’s chief diplomat stressed that European institutions must respond clearly and at the highest level to the language used by Serbian officials.

“Silence is not an option. Nor are weak responses,” he wrote.

Konjufca also called for such conduct to have concrete consequences within Serbia’s European integration process.

“The highest levels of EU leadership must issue a clear public condemnation, remind Serbia of its obligations, and ensure that such behavior has consequences in its accession process,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Konjufca reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to democratic values, a multiethnic society, reconciliation based on truth and justice, and the country’s European future.

“Kosovo remains committed to democracy, a multiethnic society, reconciliation based on truth and justice, and the European future. Serbia must also choose this path,” he concluded.
