Kosovo is marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, with Acting President Albulena Haxhiu and Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti scheduled to pay tribute today at the “Kosova Kujton” memorial.
The commemorative ceremony will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the courtyard of the Kosovo government building. Haxhiu and Kurti are also expected to deliver remarks following the wreath-laying ceremony.
September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the attacks that shook the United States and the world.
On September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers seized control of four passenger aircraft. Two planes were deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York, while a third struck the Pentagon near Washington, D.C. The fourth aircraft crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew attempted to regain control.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks. According to official figures, 2,752 people died at the World Trade Center complex alone, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers.
The “Kosova Kujton” memorial in Prishtina serves as a symbol of Kosovo’s solidarity with the United States and remembrance of those who lost their lives in the attacks.
