Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot pledged that he will actively support Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe following his meeting with Kosovo’s counterpart Glauk Konjufca.

“Speaking about the Council of Europe, I will actively advocate for your membership — not in the future, but now is the time. Belgium remains committed to strengthening bilateral dialogue and deepening cooperation, particularly in the area of police cooperation and integration, especially given the size and importance of the Kosovo diaspora in Belgium,” he said at a press conference.

He added that he will continue to raise the need to support Kosovo’s path toward the Euro-Atlantic family, noting that alignment with EU foreign and security policy is also necessary.

Prévot emphasized that it is impossible to discuss European integration without considering regional stability and the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. He said he delivered the same message during his visit to Serbia the day before.

“Belgium fully supports the EU-facilitated dialogue, and sustained engagement along with tangible progress on agreements is essential for regional stability and Kosovo’s European future. Continued progress toward normalization requires sustained attention to de-escalating tensions, especially in the north,” he said.
