The President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, has rejected claims made by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who attacked the military cooperation agreement between Zagreb, Tirana, and Pristina, alleging that it is directed against Serbia. Milanović described Vučić’s accusations as unfounded and propagandistic.
During the ceremony marking Croatia’s Armed Forces Day, Milanović emphasized that Croatia remains a responsible state committed to regional stability and international cooperation.
“Claims that Croatia and Albanians are planning an attack on Serbia are absurd and have no real basis. These statements serve only to intimidate public opinion,” the Croatian president said.
He underlined that the defense and security cooperation agreement signed by Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić with his counterparts from Albania and Kosovo is exclusively defensive in nature and aims to strengthen regional stability and cooperation.
Milanović also criticized the increasingly tense rhetoric used in some European political circles, warning that irresponsible statements could increase insecurity on the continent.
Speaking about NATO’s role, he reaffirmed Croatia’s commitment to the alliance and collective security, but stressed the need for caution and political responsibility during times of international crisis.
The Croatian president condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and called for respect for international law in all global conflicts.
“Small states are best protected by respect for international law and diplomatic dialogue,” Milanović concluded.
