A drone crashed into a ten-story residential building in the center of the Romanian city of Galați during the night, causing an explosion and a fire in an apartment on the upper floor. Several people were injured in the incident, but no fatalities were reported.

According to initial reports, the drone entered Romanian airspace during Russian airstrikes targeting objectives in neighboring Ukraine.

Bogdan Rodeanu, a USR lawmaker from Galați, wrote on Facebook that the drone struck the top of an elevator shaft in the apartment building, then fell onto the roof and exploded.

“Fortunately, there are no deaths, although there are injured. The consequences could have been much more serious,” Rodeanu said.

He added that he had spoken with residents of the building, including his friends.

“I saw damaged apartments, broken windows, and parts of the drone scattered on the ground. Honestly, I did not believe we would ever see such scenes in Galați,” he said.

Rodeanu emphasized that Romania is not officially at war, but the consequences of the conflict are being felt very close to its border.

“The war is only a few kilometers away from our homes. Sometimes we see it in the sky, and sometimes its traces in the streets of the city,” he said.

He also stressed that Romania must further invest in defense, technology, and security capabilities to protect its citizens.

“This night has once again shown that peace and security are not guaranteed and must be defended every day,” the MP concluded.
