The Kosovo Police (KP) has announced that it has prepared an operational order and completed all planning related to the early parliamentary elections for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, which will be held on June 7, 2026.
Through the operational order, the Police stated that a sufficient number of police officers will be deployed, primarily from public order units, while officers from various other specialized units may also be engaged if necessary, along with the required logistical equipment, in order to ensure security and the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
According to the Police, the operational plan is divided into four phases: 1) the pre-election or preparatory assessment period, 2) engagement in providing security during the election campaign, 3) ensuring security on election day (Day Z), and 4) the post-election period, which includes the escorted transport and security of sensitive electoral materials until the completion of the process.
The statement notes that the first phase has already been completed, and authorities are currently in the implementation stage of the second phase—ensuring security during the election campaign—continuing according to the plan through the remaining phases until the end of the electoral process.
“The purpose of this operational order in this electoral process is: creating a calm and secure environment for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as maintaining public order, peace, and security before, during, and after the election process. Increasing vigilance, securing polling stations, municipal warehouses, and the vote counting center. Safely escorting and securing all sensitive electoral materials from all designated locations according to the security plan until the completion of the police operation related to the electoral process. Initiating and processing any criminal offense against the right to vote and undertaking all procedural/criminal measures against anyone acting in violation of the country’s positive laws regulating/sanctioning unlawful actions against free and democratic elections, in close coordination and cooperation with the State Prosecutor according to action plans and prior legal agreements,” the Police stated.
As in previous planning cycles, and based on the memorandum of cooperation between the CEC, Kosovo Police, the Prosecution, and the Judicial Council, officers/investigators have been assigned to regional directorates to handle any possible cases related to the electoral process, under the authority of designated prosecutors appointed by the State Prosecution Service.
“Police coordinators have also been appointed to liaise with the CEC, and instructions have been issued to police officers regarding their legal duties and responsibilities during the electoral process,” the statement adds.
The Police also encouraged all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement institutions and to report any unlawful incidents related to election security or otherwise.
“Report via landline and mobile: 192 or 038 550 999, email: [email protected], or at the nearest police station,” the statement concludes.
