Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that Israeli forces would remain in a neutral zone on the Syrian side of the border, specifically at the top of Mount Hermon, “until a situation is created that does not pose a threat to Israel’s security.”

Netanyahu made this announcement on Tuesday from the snow-covered summit of the mountain, the highest point in the region, which is located on the Syrian side of the border. This is likely the first time an Israeli leader has entered Syrian territory.

He mentioned that he had been at the summit of Mount Hermon 53 years ago as a soldier, but the significance of this area for Israel’s security has increased in light of recent developments.
