President Vjosa Osmani marked the 76th anniversary of NATO’s founding with a powerful tribute, emphasizing the alliance’s unwavering role in safeguarding freedom, dignity, and peace.
In a statement released Friday, Osmani reflected on NATO’s decades-long mission, noting that this anniversary is a time to honor achievements and renew commitments to global security.
Remembering NATO’s Role in Kosovo’s History
President Osmani highlighted NATO’s decisive involvement during the Kosovo war in 1999, describing it as a turning point that saved millions of lives:
“Twenty-six years ago, NATO helped save millions of lives in Kosovo. It remains the backbone of peace and security—not only in our region but across Europe and the entire world.”
She stressed that NATO’s strength lies not only in its military capabilities but in its shared values:
“Today, we honor an Alliance built not only on power but on purpose—a shared belief that liberty, dignity, and peace are worth defending.”
Kosovo’s Future Is Tied to NATO
Osmani reiterated Kosovo’s aspiration to become a full NATO member, calling it the next chapter in a shared journey:
“Kosovo is ready to give back. We have stood shoulder to shoulder with our allies and will continue to do so—as partners, contributors, and future members.”
She described NATO membership not just as a political goal, but as part of Kosovo’s long-term commitment to peace and international cooperation.
The message comes amid growing support within Kosovo for closer integration with Euro-Atlantic institutions, particularly in the face of regional instability and geopolitical uncertainty.
