The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) held its regular meeting of the Presidency today to discuss the latest political developments, the institutional deadlock, and current political proposals and initiatives.

PDK assesses that the country is in a deep institutional crisis, caused by the irresponsible political behavior of the coalition that emerged first in the elections, but which, lacking a parliamentary majority, continues to hold Kosovo hostage. In this situation, every initiative aimed at resolving the deadlock deserves to be heard and discussed.

For this reason, since the conclusion of the February 9 elections, the Democratic Party of Kosovo has held meetings with all parliamentary political parties – including Vetëvendosje, despite holding it primarily responsible for the current crisis.

“This engagement reflects our firm belief that dialogue and cooperation are the only paths to overcome political crises and restore institutional normality. Therefore, as in the past, neither now nor in the future will we shy away from any meeting in the interest of citizens. In this spirit, we believe the President of the Republic, as a non-partisan institution with a legitimate mandate, should take the necessary steps to convene a meeting with all parliamentary political entities. A broad-based roundtable could be the right step toward finding a way out of the institutional crisis. PDK is committed to and convinced that the best solution for the country is the formation of a new government, composed of the parties that were in opposition during the previous mandate,” the statement said.

The statement also notes that such a government would put an end to institutional degradation, lift Kosovo out of international isolation, and implement development-oriented policies for all citizens, without distinction.

“With a jointly agreed list of national priorities, Kosovo would return to the right path of development and Euro-Atlantic integration,” it states.

At the same time, PDK calls on the VV–GUXO–Alternativa coalition not to further abuse its constitutional right to propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly, but to accept the political reality and reflect, so as not to continue holding the state hostage for narrow partisan interests.

“Kosovo needs functional institutions as soon as possible. PDK remains committed to contributing to a democratic and constitutional process that leads to a solution. Kosovo deserves more. Kosovo can do better,” the statement concludes.
