Polish and allied fighter jets were activated early Tuesday to secure Poland’s airspace after Russia carried out airstrikes targeting the western part of Ukraine.

The activation of the fighter jets was announced by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, as reported by news agency Reuters.

“The actions taken aim to ensure security in regions bordering areas at risk,” said a statement published by the Operational Command on social media.

The entire territory of Ukraine was on high alert for airstrikes starting at 4:50 AM after the Ukrainian Air Force warned of incoming Russian attacks.

As Russia’s aggression against its neighboring state continues, the international community, with particular emphasis from the United States, is making efforts to find a solution and end the conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to end the war quickly, but European allies are concerned that a rushed peace process could benefit Moscow.

Last week, delegations from both the U.S. and Russia held talks in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ukraine and European allies were not invited to these discussions.
