Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed today that the Special Parliamentary Commission for Good Governance, Anti-Corruption, and the Rule of Law will continue its work in the next legislature, calling it a key element in Albania’s EU integration process.
At the high-level meeting “Albania 2030 in the EU – The Reform Path,” organized by the Albanian Parliament, Rama emphasized the importance of continuing reforms and consolidating achievements in this process.
Rama stressed that Albania has a concrete opportunity to close negotiations by the end of 2027, but achieving this requires speed and full focus. He warned, “The history of enlargement shows that this door opens and then closes.”
The Special Commission will play a crucial role in fulfilling the necessary reforms. According to Rama, this commission is essential not only for EU entry but also for staying in the EU with a consolidated process of individual freedoms and equality before the law.
He highlighted that only through the rule of law system and EU integration can the rights and freedoms of Albanian citizens be guaranteed. “There is no individual freedom and equality before the law anywhere else except within the EU,” Rama stated.
Rama also mentioned reforms in public procurement, including efforts to implement an artificial intelligence-based system in cooperation with Microsoft and Mira Murat’s group. He stated that this system would significantly reduce human intervention in procurement processes, minimizing opportunities for corruption. “We believe that by next year, 95% of the public procurement process will be completed without human intervention,” he said.
Finally, Rama reminded that the creation of the Special Commission was a response to the significant challenges posed by the EU negotiation process, emphasizing that “the government of Albania does not negotiate with the EU, but the entire Albanian state does.” He stressed that the Albanian Parliament is the most suitable institution to coordinate this national interaction for achieving the much-anticipated result for the country.
