Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the recent protests in Tirana during a meeting with residents in Zvërnec, stating that even a massive demonstration would not outweigh his electoral mandate.

Rama said that “not even 5,000, nor 500,000 people in the square would be enough,” arguing that more than 800,000 citizens have “made an agreement” with him and the Socialist Party through their votes.

“This investment did not appear suddenly. I said it during the campaign. I was in Tivat, I came directly from Tivat here,” Rama said, referring to the Montenegrin coastal city Tivat.

He added that opposition protesters have unrealistic expectations regarding wages and economic conditions, comparing demands to salaries in the United States.

“They want wages like in America, maybe like Manhattan. I don’t know what they want. In our tourism system, wages are like in Greece, or even higher than in Greece,” he said.

Rama also emphasized that employment opportunities exist, framing the issue as a matter of willingness to work rather than wage levels.
