The former Secretary of NATO, George Robertson, also spoke at the Summit for the Western Balkans of Economist Impact. Robertson has said that Russia’s war in Ukraine is an existential threat to the West and also to the Western Balkans.

“Today there is an existential threat to the West, including the Western Balkans. This threat covers the entire continent of Europe,” said Robertson.

He mentioned the Western involvement during the 90s to stop the wars and the ethnic cleansing of Slobodan Milosevic’s regime against the Albanians.

“It is extremely important to emphasize that the involvement of the international community was an important basis for political stability and economic prosperity”, said the former Secretary of NATO.

Robertson also mentioned the NATO Summit that will be held in Washington on July 9, 10 and 11 and said that this Summit should also focus on what Russia is doing in the Western Balkans, citing misinformation and interference in election, reports Express.

“The summit should also focus on what Russia is doing in the Western Balkans. Disinformation, interference in elections, destabilization, economic destruction, these are all instruments of Russia and its intelligence agencies. All this will be in the attention of the ministers in Washington”, said Robertson.

In his speech, Robertson said that the future of the region is in the hands of the citizens and those who choose to represent them.
