Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Saturday that Russia is seeking a “definitive” response from Ukraine regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer for a three-day ceasefire that coincides with the Victory Day Parade commemorating World War II.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has so far ruled out the possibility of such a ceasefire, stating that he is willing to accept a ceasefire that lasts at least 30 days, Reuters reports.

Peskov told journalists that Putin’s offer is a test to assess Ukraine’s willingness to end the war.

The Russian president declared on Monday a three-day ceasefire to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union and its allies’ victory in World War II.

The official Kremlin announced that the 72-hour ceasefire will last from May 8 to May 10, during which time the Russian leader will host international leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, to celebrate the victory over Nazi Germany. However, Ukrainian President Zelensky has warned that he cannot guarantee the safety of foreign leaders during the parade in Moscow.
