Former Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali has reacted to remarks made by Serbia’s Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Snežana Paunović, regarding the war in Kosovo, describing them as unacceptable and offensive toward the victims of the conflict.

In her reaction, Spiropali said it was shocking that a minister from a country seeking European Union membership could express regret that in Kosovo “not enough children, women, men, and elderly people were killed.”

“May God protect us from this monster who applauds and glorifies crimes. This is not a political opinion. This is verbal barbarism,” Spiropali wrote.

According to Spiropali, Europe cannot remain silent in the face of such rhetoric, stressing that anyone who justifies or suggests that crimes should have been carried out on a larger scale cannot represent European values and must face political, institutional, and moral accountability.

She emphasized that Kosovo’s freedom was not granted by anyone but was achieved through sacrifice and bloodshed, adding that protecting the memory of victims is a moral and political obligation for Europe.

In conclusion, the former foreign minister stated that if Serbia is genuinely committed to its path toward the European Union, it cannot ignore such rhetoric, which, according to her, not only damages Serbia’s image but also threatens peaceful relations with neighboring countries.
