Swedish prosecutors have charged a 34-year-old man with attempted espionage on behalf of Russia, according to the country’s Prosecution Authority Swedish Prosecution Authority.
In a statement, prosecutors said the suspect is a former member of the Swedish Armed Forces Swedish Armed Forces and previously had access to highly classified information.
Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist stated that the suspect allegedly attempted to obtain sensitive information by traveling to Moscow in November 2025, where he reportedly met representatives of Russian intelligence and security services.
The accused has been in custody since January and is scheduled to stand trial in Stockholm starting June 15.
The Embassy of Russia in Stockholm Embassy of Russia in Sweden did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
