U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States plans to finalize multiple agreements with Iraq and secure substantial oil supplies from the country.

Speaking to reporters ahead of his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, Trump highlighted Iraq’s vast economic potential, emphasizing its extensive oil reserves.

“Iraq has tremendous potential because of its oil… and we are going to make a lot of deals. We will create many jobs for both countries, and we will get a lot of oil,” Trump said, without providing further details, according to Reuters.

The U.S. president also noted that American companies are already playing a leading role in Iraq’s oil industry.

“A lot of oil is coming out [of Iraq], and American companies are doing it—mostly American companies now,” Trump added.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions aimed at strengthening U.S.-Iraq economic cooperation, with energy expected to remain a central pillar of the bilateral relationship.
