A man and a woman with Russian passports were stopped at the Jarinje border crossing – the northern part of Kosovo – as they did not have Kosovo visas. In the announcement of the Kosovo Police, it is said that they were detained on Sunday evening.
According to the announcement, they said they came from Nish, Serbia. The suspicions are that they passed through illegal routes. “By the decision of the prosecutor, the two suspects are sent to custody”, the police announcement states. The case was initiated as “illegal border crossing”. All Russian citizens, including those with diplomatic passports, who want to enter, transit or stay in Kosovo, must be provided with a visa.
This decision was taken from 2022. Until then, Russian citizens with diplomatic and official passports were allowed to enter, transit and stay up to 15 days in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo without a visa.
