The U.S. Embassy in Kosovo has expressed concern over Kosovo’s prolonged institutional deadlock, warning that the continued political impasse is costing the country valuable opportunities.
In comments provided to Kallxo.com, the Embassy noted that Kosovo has held three rounds of elections in less than two years, contributing to a prolonged period of political uncertainty and slowing the country’s progress.
“This ongoing political deadlock is costing Kosovo opportunities that cannot be regained. The time has come for leaders to prioritize progress and stability for the benefit of all citizens.”
The Embassy stressed that Kosovo’s political leaders must work together to establish the country’s institutions in accordance with the Constitution and the rulings of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.
According to the U.S. position, citizens expect their elected representatives to fulfill their commitment to act in the best interests of the country and to ensure the effective functioning of democratic institutions.
The statement comes as Kosovo continues to face difficulties in fully constituting its institutions following recent elections, prolonging political uncertainty and delaying decisions on key domestic and international issues.
Significance
The message from the United States is one of the clearest recent calls for Kosovo’s political parties to overcome their differences and move toward institutional formation. Washington’s emphasis on stability, constitutional order, and cooperation reflects growing concern among international partners that the prolonged stalemate is hindering governance, reforms, and Kosovo’s broader Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
