Today in Mitrovica, citizens are commemorating the massacre that took place at the city’s market 27 years ago, an attack that left several people dead and more than a hundred injured.
At the time, Serbian forces shelled the crowded market with mortars while it was full of civilians. As a result, six people were killed, including women and children, while 128 others were wounded.
Every year, representatives of local institutions, associations, family members of the victims and martyrs, and other citizens gather at the site of the attack to honor the victims of the Mitrovica market massacre.
The attack was carried out by forces of Serbia during the Kosovo War.
Even today, many of those who were present at the market that day continue to suffer from the physical and psychological consequences of the attack carried out by the Serbian army and police.
