Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić sparked controversy by praising Sllobodan Milosevic and Ratko Mladić while downplaying their actions as “mistakes.”

In an interview with RTS, Vučić described Milosevic as “an intelligent politician” who allegedly did not fully anticipate the consequences of NATO’s 1999 bombing campaign. Similarly, he suggested that Mladić’s notorious role in the Bosnian war should be left to history’s judgment, framing their actions against civilians as political errors rather than war crimes.

Critics argue that Vučić’s remarks risk normalizing or excusing some of the Balkans’ most infamous atrocities, blurring the line between criminal responsibility and political misjudgment.
