President Aleksandar Vučić has confirmed that Serbia has purchased Chinese CM-400AKG ballistic missiles, making it the first country in Europe to acquire this type of weapon.

According to Reuters, the confirmation came after photographs of the missiles mounted on a Serbian military aircraft circulated online.

Speaking in a live broadcast on Serbia’s state television Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Vučić said that the country already possesses a significant number of the missiles and plans to acquire more.

“We have a considerable number of these missiles and we will have even more,” Vučić said.

The Serbian president also revealed that the Serbian Air Force has modified its Soviet-designed MiG‑29 fighter jets to carry the CM-400AKG missiles.

Reuters described the move as part of Serbia’s strategy to balance its military and political relationships, including cooperation with NATO, aspirations to join the European Union, historical political and cultural ties with Russia, and strategic relations with China.
