Leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice, Dragan Đilas, has said that the election outcome in Hungary represents a strong political message and a signal of upcoming change in Serbia.
In a post on the social media platform X, Đilas said that the “energy of Hungarian citizens” reflects a broader moment in which, according to him, authoritarianism is retreating and hope is returning to politics.
“A Message for Serbia”
Đilas stated that preliminary results indicate a political defeat for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whom he described as a close political and business partner of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
He added that Hungarian voters, as he put it, did not forgive the government for distancing the country from the European path and for systemic corruption, instead supporting opposition leader Péter Magyar.
“We want such a change in Serbia as well,” Đilas said, congratulating Hungary for what he called its courage to return to the path of “freedom, justice, and Europe.”
“Freedom Will Come to Serbia Soon”
Đilas concluded by expressing confidence that political change in Serbia is approaching, stating that “freedom will come to Serbia soon.”
Hungarian Election Background
The remarks come after Péter Magyar secured a parliamentary election victory, ending the 16-year rule of Viktor Orbán. Orbán acknowledged the result as “clear” but “painful” for his party, while pledging to continue serving Hungary from the opposition.
