In a historic milestone for Kosovo’s education sector, the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) has been officially recognized as an “accrediting authority” in the United States. The decision was formalized by the Board of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is set to remain valid for seven years, effective until December 31, 2033.

According to an official announcement from the KAA, the CHEA Board of Directors approved the recommendation to recognize the Kosovar agency following a rigorous evaluation process. This designation makes Kosovo the first and currently the only country in Europe to hold such a status within the United States.

A Landmark Achievement for Quality Assurance

This international recognition comes less than a year after the KAA was successfully reinstated into the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), which previously distinguished Kosovo as the only Western Balkan nation with that standing.

In its statement, the KAA emphasized that this achievement is the culmination of extensive institutional reforms:

“This recognition from the USA is clear evidence of the reforms undertaken, our institutional professionalism, and the KAA’s continuous commitment to ensuring quality in higher education.”

Global Integration

By securing this status, the KAA solidifies its role as a credible oversight body on the global stage. The recognition is expected to facilitate greater academic mobility and strengthen the validity of Kosovar diplomas in the American market, marking a significant step forward in the internationalization of Kosovo’s higher education system.
