A significant step toward the economic revitalization of Mitrovica was taken today, May 14, 2026, with the laying of the foundation stone for the Industrial Park in Frashër.
The project, valued at approximately €1 million, is part of a broader national strategy to boost production, innovation, and high-value-added industries across Kosovo.
A Debt to Mitrovica
Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized the cultural and historical significance of the city, framing the investment as a gesture of gratitude.
“In this way, we are paying a small part of the great debt we owe to Mitrovica, which gave so much development and culture not only to Kosovo but to the entire Albanian nation,” Kurti stated.
He noted that the park will accommodate local businesses, national companies, and foreign investors, with the ultimate goal of increasing manufacturing output and local employment.
National Investment Plan: €30 Million for 14 Parks
The Frashër project is just one piece of a massive infrastructure overhaul. Kurti announced that the government plans to invest over €30 million in 14 industrial parks across Kosovo over the next three years. This initiative aims to:
- Modernize infrastructure for manufacturing businesses.
- Stimulate the growth of exports.
- Create a favorable environment for innovation and technology.
Strengthening Local Industry
Acting Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade, and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, highlighted that the government’s primary focus remains the growth of local production. She stressed that these parks are essential for developing industries that offer “added value” to the economy.
The Mayor of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, also addressed the crowd, confirming the municipality’s commitment to creating the best possible conditions for investors and businesses to flourish in the region.
The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade, and Innovation (MINT), marks the official start of construction, with local officials hopeful that the park will soon become a central hub for economic activity in northern Kosovo.
