The European Union law enforcement agency, Europol, together with several other states, has targeted the online propaganda of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in a coordinated operation against terrorist-related content online.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, and several other countries, including Kosovo.

Europol announced that the operation targeted 14,200 posts linked to the Revolutionary Guard.

The action focused on identifying and disrupting the group’s online presence, which was reportedly used to spread propaganda, recruit supporters, and raise funds, according to the statement.

Nineteen countries participated in the operation to identify online content connected to the IRGC.

Europol said that from February 13 to April 28, authorities worked jointly under its coordination, collecting data, verifying targets, and analyzing online platforms.

According to the EU agency, the content was distributed across major social media platforms, streaming services, blogs, and independent websites. It appeared in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, French, Persian, and Spanish.

The propaganda reportedly included religious martyrdom narratives combined with political messaging, as well as AI-generated videos praising the IRGC and calling for revenge following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Europol stated that linking multiple multilingual websites associated with the group provided key insights into how the network operates online.

After more than 14,000 posts were identified, the IRGC-linked account on X (formerly Twitter), which had around 150,000 followers, was blocked within the EU, while other links have been removed or are under investigation.

The operation also found that the IRGC continues to expand its digital presence, maintaining online networks across several countries, including Russia and the United States.

Authorities also identified cryptocurrency transactions used to amplify online operations, a tactic designed to bypass traditional financial monitoring systems, according to Europol.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an ideological branch of Iran’s armed forces, created after the 1979 revolution to protect the country’s clerical leadership. It controls or owns companies across Iran’s economy, including key strategic sectors.
