On Monday, a US court ruled in favor of OpenAI in a lawsuit filed by entrepreneur Elon Musk.

The court decided that the artificial intelligence company is not liable to Musk for allegedly deviating from its original mission of benefiting humanity.

A jury in the federal court in Oakland, California, unanimously found that Musk filed the lawsuit too late.

It should be noted that the trial began on April 28. The main dispute was between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Musk accused OpenAI of attempting to unlawfully enrich investors and insiders at the expense of a nonprofit organization, and of failing to give sufficient attention to artificial intelligence safety. He also claimed that Microsoft knew from the beginning that OpenAI was more interested in money than in noble causes.

OpenAI pushed back, saying it was Musk who saw “profitable opportunities” in the project and waited a long time before claiming that OpenAI had violated its founding agreement to create safe AI for the benefit of humanity.

OpenAI competes with companies such as Anthropic and xAI in the artificial intelligence space and is preparing for a potential initial public offering that could value the company at $1 trillion.

According to one Microsoft executive, the company has spent more than $100 billion in its partnership with OpenAI.

Musk’s xAI is now part of his space and rocket company SpaceX, which is preparing for a potential IPO that could surpass OpenAI’s in size.
