The United States Department of State has mentioned Kosovo in its latest report to the US Congress on promoting stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans, placing particular emphasis on regionally significant energy projects.
The document includes improvements to Kosovo’s coal-fired power plants, as well as projects related to coal gasification, which are considered part of broader efforts to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on Russian energy sources.
The report also highlights the importance of constructing additional transmission cables that would connect the energy networks of Western Balkan countries with European energy markets.
According to the document, the United States aims to encourage the involvement of the American private sector in strategic energy projects across the region, including gas interconnectors, hydropower development, and the modernization of existing infrastructure.
The report also mentions other regional projects, such as the gas pipeline between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the proposed gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia.
According to the US Department of State, these investments are intended to strengthen the Western Balkans’ energy integration with the European market and enhance the region’s strategic security.
