European Council President Antonio Costa has arrived in Pristina as part of a high-level Western Balkans tour. The visit comes during a period of acute domestic political transition for Kosovo, with Costa scheduled to meet leadership figures across the political spectrum before heading to Belgrade.
The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, officially received the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday morning.
The high-profile meeting marks the first leg of Costa’s official diplomatic tour through the region. Discussions at the Presidency are expected to center on Kosovo’s current institutional gridlock, regional security stabilization, and the future of the stalled EU Growth Plan funds.
A Packed Diplomatic Itinerary in Prishtina
Following his bilateral talks with Acting President Haxhiu, the European Council President is scheduled to navigate a dense sequence of meetings across Kosovo’s caretaker political landscape:
- Executive Consultations: Costa will hold a subsequent meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti to discuss the continuity of institutional reforms.
- Opposition Dialogue: In an effort to assess paths out of the country’s ongoing constitutional impasse, Costa will also meet with the leaders of Kosovo’s main opposition political parties.
