The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, held a bilateral meeting with the President of North Korea Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, on the margins of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit in Sofia.
The two leaders discussed the bilateral relations between Kosovo and North Macedonia, emphasizing their shared commitment as neighboring countries to regional stability, cross-border connectivity, and European integration.
Euro-Atlantic Support and International Alliances
During the high-level dialogue, Acting President Haxhiu underscored the strategic importance of mutual diplomatic backing on the world stage.
- Multilateral Backing: The leaders highlighted the necessity of continued mutual support within international organizations.
- Council of Europe: Haxhiu specifically advocated for North Macedonia’s ongoing endorsement of Kosovo’s membership bid for the Council of Europe.
- NATO Tracks: The discussions touched upon securing a clearer and more accelerated path toward NATO integration for Kosovo.
Strategic Infrastructure and Economic Connectivity
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to critical cross-border infrastructure projects designed to directly benefit citizens, stimulate trade, and boost regional economic development.
“Advancing our shared infrastructure is vital for the freedom of movement and economic vitality of both nations,” Haxhiu noted, focusing on two primary transport corridors.
The leaders reviewed the progress of two major initiatives:
- The Bllaca–Skopje Highway: A vital road link to streamline transport between Prishtina and Skopje.
- The Tetova–Prizren Tunnel Project: A strategic engineering corridor aimed at slashing travel times and bringing the border communities closer together.
