Prominent political analyst Dragiša Mijačić has weighed in heavily on the escalating diplomatic crisis surrounding Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović. Mijačić publicly declared that as a Serb originally from Kosovo, he feels deeply ashamed by the minister’s rhetoric regarding the ethnic cleansing and deportation of Kosovo Albanians.
In a scathing post published on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Mijačić asserted that Paunović’s extremist viewpoints are a direct byproduct of how she built her political career—riding on the coattails of wartime tragedies and defending the legacy of Slobodan Milošević.
“A Defender of Milošević’s Criminal Regime”
Mijačić argued that the international shock surrounding Paunović’s remarks overlooks her long-standing ideological roots. He emphasized that her current political standing within the ruling cabinet is an extension of her historical alignment with 1990s-era nationalist policies:
“Snežana Paunović built her entire career on that tragedy, advancing all the way to becoming a minister in the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Therefore, her statements should surprise no one. She has always been a defender of the legacy and values of Milošević’s criminal regime, which she is clearly proving to everyone yet again these days.”

The analyst expressed profound concern over the moral state of Serbian society, questioning how someone harboring such archaic and harmful ideologies managed to scale the highest echelons of state power and maintain a prominent presence in the country’s public discourse.
The Ultimate Ultimatum: Three Ultimate Demands
Mijačić closed his reaction by calling on all responsible political actors within the government and the ruling coalition to take immediate corrective action, outlining three distinct paths toward accountability:
- For the Minister: If she possesses even a shred of personal honor, Minister Paunović must resign immediately.
- For the Prime Minister: If he possesses any courage, Prime Minister Đuro Macut must instantly launch formal parliamentary procedures to dismiss her from the cabinet.
- For the Party Leader: If there is any moral integrity left within the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), party leader Ivica Dačić must expel Paunović from the party ranks.
“Nobody needs to explain to you what needs to be done,” Mijačić concluded, directing his message to Serbia’s leadership. “You yourself know very well what the right course of action is.”
